Imagine for a moment, if you will, that you are looking for an evening's entertainment that is guaranteed to conjure up a fanciful cornucopia of magical visions. Well imagine no more, for if you enjoy side splitting comedy, mind blowing illusions, powerful vocalists singing dynamic songs and dreamlike dancers that promise to leave a lasting impression for many years to come then step into the Land Of Make Believe. The Land Of Make Believe, that is, in Babbacombe Theatre's latest production where fantasy becomes a reality.
In the all new show you are invited to join us as our vision embraces the true essence of variety. In a time where technology rules, live entertainment still has a place in our busy lives. Reaching beyond the realms of everyday life, many people take pleasure from storytelling. We all enjoy, for example, the narratives found in many West End and Broadway hit musicals, along with sound bites from Oscar winning movie soundtracks, humorous tales from iconic comedy classics and the Grammy Award winning pop song. Our latest Babbacombe Theatre production 'Fantasy' contains all of the aforementioned and, come what may, will surely leave you with an unbelievable theatre experience that is sure to generate a lasting impression.
Spoofing about again this season, we are absolutely delighted to welcome back to the venue, a popular favourite with Babbacombe audiences, Andy Oakley. He can tell you a few tales by taking you to places you had only ever dreamed about. Along with Andy, and enriched with the voice of an angel, our very own singing sensation Keedie is just as adept at interpreting a pop song as she is the most opulent of arias. And though she may become 'So Emotional' whilst performing the Whitney Houston classic - when it comes to performing as Christine, then please let me assure you that this amazing vocalist is definitely no apparition.
Fantasy has its very own good luck charm in the guise of Dean Winters; the diminutive cheeky chappy enjoys partaking in mischief, which includes some saucy anecdotes that he hopes will tickle your fancy! As if he never said goodbye, Paul Cobley also returns to entertain you in all his glory. Look out for his black leotard which he adorns with our male cast. Note, it is not a mirage - albeit you will think you are dreaming! Also, you may like to have a few tissues at the ready as tears will stream uncontrollably as we transport you into another dimension - with a comedy take on one of pop diva Beyonce's massive hit songs.
Not to be outdone, international vocalist Becky Bennett will be letting out an almighty 'Roar' A massive hit in 2013 for Katy Perry, this iconic song has had millions of hits on You Tube. We are in no doubt that our very own Becky will also generate some thunderous applause with her exhilarating rendition of this popular classic. Magic also plays a massive part in fiction. And this season's production of 'Fantasy' has the British Magical Champion of Illusion, Daniel Dean, as a special guest. Daniel plans to confound and amaze you and, although he may well have your head in a spin with his astounding illusions, when it comes to taking on the parody of recycling, however, you might believe that he's talking a complete load of rubbish!
Every mystical tale ever told has someone who is loving and good and granting wishes in abundance. We at the Babbacombe Theatre, however, bring you not one, but six heavenly creatures. Dancing deliciously are the enchanting Danze Magique, ably assisted by four little cherubs who go by the name of Trix. They will all charm and astonish you with their magical, and awe inspiring, interpretations of our resident choreographer Georgia Lee's exciting routines, as they enhance the correlation of movement and music whilst simultaneously embracing the dynamic orchestral arrangements of Musical Director, Pete Leonard.
Everyone involved with the Babbacombe Theatre production of 'Fantasy' hopes that you all have as much fun watching the show as we have had producing and performing it for you. It goes without saying that we have an amazing team of people here at the Babbacombe Theatre, both centre stage and behind the scenes, who are dedicated to entertaining you. However, without you, the audience, we would certainly not have a show. So we would like to extend a huge thank you for supporting us and for keeping theatre live.
There has been an absolute abundance of amazing entertainers appearing at this quaint, and delightfully bijou little theatre over the years - with international superstars, along with resident performers such as Phil Lowen, Paul Cobley, Dean Winters and sensational singing star Keedie to name just a few gracing the annals of its celebrity seasoned interior. And 2014's rollicking extravaganza was certainly no exception as Colin Matthews, Pete Leonard and Georgia Lee's spectacular production of 'Fantasy' bewitched the stage.
In our 2014 season the star studded cast included Daniel Dean, who's success in show business began at the age of just fourteen when he won his first competition. In 2001, he was awarded the highly acclaimed title of 'The British Magical Champion Of Illusion' which took place at theBlackpool Opera House.Another star performing at Babbacombe Theatrein2014 was Paul Cobley-an all round entertainer who has appeared at many prestigious venues throughout his successful career such as The London Palladium and it's nearby illustrious companion The Theatre Royalin Drury Lane.Hehas also starred in many notable productions such as Grease, where he took on the role of Danny and also in Oliver, where he took on the role of Fagin.
Also appearing was vocalist, musician and comedian Andy Oakley who has been in the business for over thirty years. Andy has appeared in many fine productions here at the Babbacombe Theatre including many acclaimed Christmas Shows. His friendly and relaxed style is always a sure fire winner with any audience and his personality will always leave you wanting more. And then there was theatre regular and all round entertainer Dean Winters, who started out as a Red Coatat one of Butlin's fun filled holiday camps. Dean is known as 'The Little Man With The Big Personality' and with his extensive comedy talents matched only by his amazing vocal ability, he can slip his act into any production making it fit like a glove.
Which brings us on to two amazing performers Keedie and Becky. Keedie, of course, is also a theatre veteran and no stranger to the Babbacombe boards. She first appeared at the Babbacombe Theatre in her own show 'For One Night Only' in 2009 and later returned as a special guest judge for Torbay's Got Talent. Keedie has topped the charts with the song I Believe My Heart, which she was asked to perform and duet with Duncan James, from the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical The Woman In White. More recently, in February 2015, Keedie auditioned for the BBC TV show The Voice where she performed the song Titanium.
And then, of course, there is the amazingly talented Becky Bennett who has played numerous stage roles in musical theatre productions - often as the lead. She appeared in Copacobana and other hit musicals including Fiddler On The Roof and Me And My Girl. She has also taken to the stage in many pantomimes and also starred in a number of feature films. And then last, but very definitely not least, we were extremely delighted to have in our midst an amazing troupe of dancers who go by the name of Danze Magique. Ten fabulous girls who certainly set the night on fire with their breathtaking performance and, of course, the youngest members of our line up 'Trix' - destined without doubt to be surefire stars of the future.
